While the Great War was raging on, on July 1916, William Foster & Co. had finalized its ambitious Battletank (design 105V), a colossal 12 m, ~45‑ton armored behemoth that envisioned a crew of nine plus up to 15 infantry, front‑mounted twin long‑barrel 6 pounder guns in sponsons, five machine guns and loopholes for infantry fire, all protected by up to 50 mm of armor; mobility came from dual 105 hp Daimler engines linked via a complex transmission to two main rhomboid tracks and additional narrow tracks for trench‑crossing, enhanced by trailing steering wheels—a system advanced yet cumbersome. Despite its cutting‑edge engineering and multi‑role concept, the Battletank proved impractically heavy, slow (around 5 km/h), and overly complex—leading the War Office to abandon it in favor of the more maneuverable and mass‑producible Mark I family, though its advanced ideas on armor, firepower, and troop-carrying foreshadowed later heavy‑tank developments .

This beast will soon be available in our store in 1/72 and 1/35 scale.
